Self-taught or art school?
I am a 23 year-old self-taught artist in the UK who learns through experimentation and practise. I haven’t had any formal art education other than a GCSE at school. There are so many restrictions and formalities in the world already, art is one place where you are set free of those formalities. That’s why I would always rather sit alone with my ideas than seeking formal education.
If you could own one work of art what would it be?
It would have to be between Henri Matisse – The Riverbank which captivates me with the colours used, or one of Claude Monet’s Water-lily pieces (I wouldn’t be picky which one!)
How would you describe your style?
My work has often been described as dreamlike and colourful. I like to paint the way I perceive things rather than exactly what I see. I think this way it has a part of me and my thoughts/emotions into the work. I also like to create what is not really possible, to make it interesting and eye-catching.
What are your favourite places to view art?
I love to explore small art festivals and find the energy and vibrancy addictive. Smaller artists are often a lot more honest with their work too.
Who are your favourite artists and why?
I don’t have one favourite artist, but find amazing and unique qualities in many artists. At the minute my biggest inspirations are Miranda Skoczek who has a wonderful, playful vibe and Hannah Adamaszek who creates free-spirited beauties.
What inspires your art?
My influences are mainly nature and colour, but I gain a lot of energy and enthusiasm of other artists by looking at their work.
Where is your studio and what is it like?
I work from a studio in my home, its bright and colourful with lots of natural light. There are a lot of plants around as you can’t get anything more beautiful than nature. It’s usually pretty messy like an art explosion has gone off.
What are you working on currently?
I am currently working on a series of mountain landscapes, and experimenting with colour, depth & composition.
Where can we buy your art?
I have an Etsy shop which can be found at this link: www.katiejobling.etsy.com

What are your ambitions?
My main ambition is to keep creating art everyday and to hopefully share it with as many as possible.
