Alex Kelly is a London-based artist not defined by one particular style. Varied with a sense of spiritualism, an essence of mythology, legends, love and tortured souls. There’s a 3D constructive conceptualism apparent in some of Alex’s work that we love and cannot fully depict the beauty of in images alone; you really must view the artwork to gain the full drama and impact, the depth of colour the glint of gold and the image breaking away from the canvas. Alex is diverse in her range and The Red Collection is minimalist with simplistic lines, bold and impactful but stripped bare in total contrast to the dripped and built upon work of The Black Crossroads, all stunningly emotive. Where will Alex go next with her art? We’re intrigued to find out.
Self taught or art school?
If you could own one work of art what would it be?
Gabe Leonard’s Shark tank
How would you describe your style?
Where are your favourite places to view art?
National Gallery London. A bit obvious but I soak up all the energy of the great masters. They’re all there in spirit. I can sit for hours looking at the Morning walk by Thomas Gainsborough. The N.G has a wonderful energy.
Who are your favourite artists and why?
At the moment it’s Gabe Leonard and Loui Jover. They both create work that I always wish I owned, had painted or at least thought of!!!! They spark a healthy jealousy in me. Joking aside I would love even a sketch off one of them. Amazing artists!
What or who inspires your art?
Human fragility – The human emotional mask.
We all forget that what we individually feel is exactly what the next person feels. Seeing someone struggle with addiction was a painful learning experience that came out in 1 of my collections. Knowing that you can’t do a thing for that person other than love them is tough, but sometimes that’s all they need.
Where’s your studio and what’s it like?
It’s my flat! I’m a Londoner so you take what space you can haha.
Do you have any studio rituals?
The main thing is music – on at all times. All arts are food for the soul
What are you working on currently?
I’ve got 3 collections running around my head at the moment, but sadly I only have 1 pair of hands. It’s constructive 3D art work. Love it!
Where can we buy your art?
Member of portobelloartistsgroup.com & @RAW_artists –
What are your ambitions?
Like every struggling artist I want to do this full – time. Live the dream
